The First Time You Light Your Candle

The first time you light your new candle you should let it burn for at least one hour, it is recommended your first burn time is 3 to 4 hours to allow the wax to burn evenly and to let it melt to the sides of the jars creating a full wax pool. This will help to stop the candle from tunnelling (when the wax builds up around the sides of the jar) and will mean the candle will burn correctly in the future.

Keep The Wick Trimmed

Before you light your candle each time you should trim the wick.  The wick should never be more that 1/4 inch high. If you do not keep the wick trimmed it will become too long and it will create a large flame and the candle will burn down more quickly than it should.

Safety First

Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep them out of the reach of children and pets. There should also be at least 10cm between burning candles. Do not burn candles near anything that can catch fire. Only burn your candles on a level heat resistant surface. Take care with the glass as it may become hot when the candle is lit. Take care to remove wick trimmings and bits of matches from your candle as they can cause the candle wax to burn quicker.

How to Put Your Candle Out

Some people think the best way to extinguish a candle is to blow it out but there is a better way!! The best way to put your candle out is in fact to bend the wick into the wax pool for a few seconds then to bring it back up.  It is also said that by coating the wick in wax makes it easier to relight your candle
